A recent ABC news study revealed that nearly 35 million American men lose their hair; that’s about 50% of all men. This issue really is something to be alarmed about. Baldness can be prevented or even treated, you just need to visit a reliable hair specialist or submit yourself for a baldness consultation. Most men are not open to these options, primarily being ashamed of the condition. However, this is completely unnecessary. A professional baldness consultation could easily turn things around.

What experts will say

Hair loss which eventually leads to baldness is caused primarily by genes. Contrary to popular belief, baldness is not caused by wearing hats or excessive shampooing.

Most people suffer emotionally due to balding, and doctors will assist with dealing with the issue. Studies show that hair is associated with a symbol of professionalism, as well as social, cultural and religious affiliations. Youth, strength, virility and power are all apparently implied by ‘good hair’.

Self-Esteem

The British Journal of Psychology in 1995 published an article which stated that persons suffering from baldness had low levels of self-esteem and were less sociable when compared with peers who had ‘good hair’. Some men even suffer from depression due to balding. Therefore, it is very important to discuss this problem with the right experts and decide on legitimate and proven treatments.

Which treatment is right for you?

Medications such as Dustasteride and Finasteride are popular, though there are no proven studies to back up their effectiveness to counter baldness. Hair transplant surgery however has a proven success rate in restoring hair in a shorter span of time when compared to these medications.

If you’re considering laser teeth whitening or the more traditional method of bleaching, you should be aware of the risks that come with undergoing the procedure. While not everyone will have the same reaction, some people are more at risk for adverse results than others. For those individuals, other options such as porcelain veneers might be a better choice.

After an in-office bleaching session, some patients find that their teeth have become more sensitive to pressure and/or temperature. This is often temporary, but some find the sensation unpleasant, particularly if there is shooting pain in the teeth. Cosmetic dentists often recommend potassium nitrate toothpaste to help.

Quite a few people experience irritated gums after bleaching. This rarely lasts more than a few days, however.

“Technicolor teeth” occur when there are visible veneers, crowns, bonding, or fillings that retain their color while the teeth are whitened. Restoration replacements might be needed.

Losing hair can be attributed to various factors such as shortage of proper nourishment in your diet, stress, vitamin deficiencies, external weather conditions and even emotional disturbances.

Vitamins that aid hair growth and healthy hair are: vitamin A produces healthy sebum in the scalp, vitamin C (antioxidant), vitamin E improves scalp circulation, Biotin produces keratin, Inositol keeps follicles healthy, Niacin promotes scalp circulation and pantothenic acid, Para Aminobenzoic Acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 that delay greying and baldness.

To stop baldness you must take Biotine. This vitamin gives you great hair and great skin as well. Eat green peas, brown rice and sunflower seeds. If you’d rather opt for a supplement, 3 measures of 50mg a day will suffice. Vitamin E is another advantageous nutrient for your hair. It increases the amount of oxygen carried in the blood for better circulation.

Massage your scalp. This is yet another way to combat hair loss which could lead to baldness. This stimulates your scalp and improves blood circulation to the follicles.

The market has many solutions for baldness, but not all of them safe. FDA approved drugs for combating baldness are Minoxidil and Finasteride. Minoxidil is a substance that must be applied on the scalp and will gradually reduce the thinning of hair. Finasteride on the other hand comes in pill form and must be taken daily.

Hypnosis is yet another way of battling baldness. It gently assists your subconscious mind to make the right changes to your hair growth. Just put on some headphones and listen to a hypnosis track.

Worried you’re going bald? Here are a few telltale signs to look out for. Remember, shedding hair is normal for humans; so noticing a few hairs on your pillow every morning is not a sign that you’re going bald. Hair loss is largely due to genetics. Take a close look at your family tree, and you might be able to work out your chances of staying with a head full of hair!

Balding does not come with ageing, it can occur at any time of your life. Some start to lose hair as early as 18. For some, hair loss is noticed when large clumps of hair fall out when brushing or combing; and the drain in the shower might contain more hairs than it usually did. If you notice a receding hairline or a bald spot – then, yes, you are balding.

The level of testosterone in the body is a common cause for baldness. Levels of testosterone are dictated by your genetics and stress. If you hair loss is due to stress, this is temporary, and it will grow back. If it is due to your genes, then hair loss is here to stay. Baldness affects both men and women. However, baldness is more common amongst men.

Watch out for signs that you are indeed balding. If the top of your head feels suddenly colder, or your parting gets wider, maybe the sun feels hotter on your head and you might notice increased teasing from your friends. It is important that you accept that you might be balding and start on treating it immediately. Different treatments are available for balding but depend on the type and the individual. Seek the help of a professional.

Treating baldness is no easy task. The market is overflowing with ‘solutions’, but their credibility and success rate are doubtful matters. According to the US FDA, there are only two accepted medications to treat hair loss. These guarantee a 50-75% success rate. Hair implants on the other hand can give you a near 100% success rate on hair restoration.

Hair implants are a great solution to hair loss and look natural as well. Hair implants are great, especially if you have sections of your scalp with hair still growing. With women, hair implants do not always work, as they tend to have thinning hair.

Male pattern baldness rarely involves hair loss on the back of the head. Hair loss is mostly experienced on the crown of the head or forehead. During the implant procedure, the surgeon removes sections of the scalp from the hair covered area. Narrow slits are usually made, which can then be easily sewn together. The follicles are cleaned and then readied for insertion. Next, the surgeon makes small incisions in the bald section and then inserts the follicles in groups of 1-3, mimicking natural hair placement. A skilled surgeon is also able to insert hair in such a way that it influences the direction of growth.

Hair plugs or hair implants are soon becoming popular. The expense is not a large one, considering very minimal after-procedure costs, and is a secure method, as opposed to toupees that could fall off at any given time. The treatment also produces very few side effects.
