DHT or Dihydrotestosterone is synonymous with hair loss; this is half true. DHT is not the sole cause of hair loss; instead, it simply aids the balding process. DHT tends to block hair follicles and prevents growth. In time, it blocks the hair follicle making it difficult for any hair to grow there. The top and back of your head are spots where DHT gets attached to, and those are the first areas you will notice balding first.

There are four ways you can go about blocking DHT induced hair loss. First, do not let DHT attach itself to your hair follicles. Step two involves reducing the amount of DHT produced in the body, while another method is to stop production of 5 alpha reductase, which is the enzyme that makes DHT. Reducing things like cholesterol also lessen the amount of 5 alpha reductase produced.

Herbal supplements are also recommended and is one of the best mechanisms against DHT. Palmetto is one of the best herbs that you should take for treating and blocking the spread of DHT. Doctors commonly prescribed this herb to prevent prostate problems. It also helps prevent DHT from damaging hair and bringing on baldness.

The recommended dosage of palmetto is 1,200mg per day. This will help to naturally stop the spread of DHT. He Shou Wu, a Chinese medicinal herb is also recommended for this purpose as well as green tea. Four cups of green tea a day is perfect to combat this problem, especially for women.

If you are losing hair, there are some natural cures that may work to help prevent baldness. Certain vitamins can help stimulate hair growth. Those important vitamins are Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. A natural way to implement these vitamins into your diet to prevent baldness would be to eat foods that are rich in those vitamins.

Another natural cure to prevent baldness is to make sure you are taking in the correct minerals that prevent hair loss. You must eat foods such as oats, barley, and whole wheat to make sure you are taking in enough. Lima beans, almonds, split peas, and organic beef are some examples of good sources of zinc. Food that is a good source of iodine would be low fat yogurt, strawberries, and boiled eggs. Iron is found in many food items, but some examples are raisins, prunes, whole grains, and eggs.

Many people understand that cosmetic dentistry can help them improve their smiles and change the way they perceive themselves and others perceive them. However, a crippling fear of the dentist can keep many people from getting the dental work they need in order to have the best smile possible.

This is why many cosmetic dentists have decided to make their practices as inviting as possible. Many have created an atmosphere meant to pamper their patients while getting them ready for their dental procedures. These “dental day spas” offer perks such as masseuses, aromatherapy and facial treatments for women as they wait to have a procedure done such as implanting porcelain veneers.

Stress reduction techniques are recommended by the American Dental Association for helping patients who are uncomfortable going to the dentist. Not only does relieving stress make the patient easier to deal with but it reduces the need for dental sedation, which is relatively safe but (like with any sedation) has potential risks.

Having a thick head of hair is a sign of health and youth. Regardless of the reassurances that “bald is sexy” most men would prefer to be sexy with a full head of hair. Around one third of 30 year olds have male-pattern baldness. The percentage jumps to 50% for men in their 50’s.

So what can be done to get back that full head of hair? Several medications are available:

Rogaine (aka Minoxidil)

Rogaine, a cream applied directly to the scalp, can be purchased over the counter at your local drug store. Rogaine is not a quick fix; it can take months before any improvement is noticed. Also, there are mixed reviews as to how effective Rogaine is in treating frontal hair loss.

The key ingredient in Rogaine is Minoxidil, which is clinically tested and approved by the FDA. It inhibits the production of DHT-a hormone that is linked to hair loss.

Finasteride (brand-name is Propecia)

Propecia is one of the most popular treatments for frontal baldness. It boasts quick results; in fact it can begin working within a few days. Not only can Propecia help re-grow lost hair, it can also slow down new hair loss.

Propecia is a once-daily pill prescribed by your doctor. But there can be some side effects including sexual side effects.

Dutasteride (aka Avodart)

Dutasteride is an oral medication approved in 2002 by the FDA. Although the main purpose of the drug is the treatment of non-cancerous prostrate gland enlargement, Dutasteride also shows effectiveness in the treatment of Male Pattern Baldness.
