The health of your scalp is something that you have to look into, even if you have hair. If you do not, then you must pay extra attention to it. After all, there is no hair to protect the scalp so it is exposed to all sorts of danger.

The first thing to do, if you are not bald yet, is to take proper care when shaving your head. There are specific razors on the market that help you do this and you can even find some that you can attach to your hand enabling you to get a shave with a minimum risk of nicks and cuts. There are some good shaving creams specifically developed for scalp shaves and these would be a good investment as well.

The next thing to do is to shampoo your scalp on a regular basis; doing this once a day will help you avoid clogged pores and other problems. You should also apply moisturizer after you wash; this will protect your scalp from drying out too much and also combat flaking due to prolonged exposure to heat sources. Avoid using hot water to wash your scalp as this will strip away any essential oils on your scalp, however you can use lukewarm water instead. If you do plan to be in the sun a lot, make sure you use a good sunscreen which has a moisturizing component built in.

Massaging is also a technique you can use to keep your scalp healthy. You can do this by applying gentle pressure with your fingertips to your scalp while rubbing in a slow circular motion. This will relax your muscles, keep your scalp flexible, soothe your nerves and even promote hair growth.

Do you have an itchy scalp? If you are losing hair because of this, it can not only be frustrating but sends off alarm signals as well. Hair loss caused by an itchy scalp could be due to a number of reasons, but most of them are not permanent. So you do not have to panic. Once you find the reason behind your itchy scalp, then you can treat it accordingly and your hair will grow back.

However, do not delay in finding the reason for this occurrence. Consult a dermatologist who will diagnose the exact problem and prescribe suitable treatments which will help avoid any long term scarring due to the irritation on your scalp. This treatment should also encourage hair re-growth.

Here are a few common reasons behind hair loss due to an itchy scalp:

Folliculitis - This is caused by strong ingredients in shampoo that damage hair follicles and which become infected. Symptoms include small, white-headed pimples located around hair follicles. If you have deep folliculitis it can be very painful and result in red boils. This must be treated fast; otherwise it could cause considerable damage to the hair follicles which could lead to scarring and even bald patches.

Ring worm of the scalp (tinea capitis) - This is a superficial fungal infection on the scalp. Caused by fungi called dermatophytes, its symptoms include red, itchy patches on your scalp as well as hair loss. If aggravated, skin might even start to peel or scale and will result in a highly contagious rash. This can be treated with products that can be bought over the counter, which contain miconazole and clotrimazole.

Psoriasis - A fairly common skin disease with over seven million people in the US affected by it. This disease makes skin cells replace themselves above normal levels causing scale-covered wounds. This is paired with severe itching and could even lead to temporary baldness. To combat this condition, you would need to use a shampoo which contains zinc pyrithione or even avocado oil.

What is Rogaine?

Rogaine is one of the two drugs approved by the FDA for hair loss treatment. The other one is Propecia. Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine was initially created to treat hypertension. After much testing it was found that one of its side effects was hair growth. It was then tested for usage as an application for hair re-growth and the results were impressive enough to let the FDA approve it.

How does Rogaine work?

Withering hair follicles are rejuvenated by Rogaine - which makes them bigger. Daily usage of Rogaine will mean that your hair follicles will get bigger and it will also lengthen the growing phase. This could result in thick, long hair.

A clear, alcohol-based solution, Rogaine is meant to be applied on the affected areas via the use of a dropper or sprayed on twice per day.
Rogaine is available in two strengths - regular which contains 2% while extra strength is 5%. Users of regular strength Rogaine state that success rates lie between 30-40% while extra strength Rogaine users have a success rate of 50-60%. Rogaine will cost you around $20-30 per month for a 2oz. bottle. Minoxidil, however, can be purchased over the counter minus a prescription.

While no one is clear as to how Rogaine works, it is important to keep in mind that it is not a cure for baldness. All that is known is that Rogaine pumps up the blood flow to the balding areas of the scalp. New research indicates that Rogaine opens up the potassium channels of the follicles which in theory, once opened, could possibly regulate the growth of hair.

Dry hair can be difficult to care for, and many people around the world suffer from it. Maintenance is a key factor although most people do not seem to take the effort or the time to do so.

Hair has a number of layers. You might think it to be just one strand, but under a microscope it is quite different.

Not everyone is blessed with hair that is normal. Some people who suffer from dry hair encounter the fact that their hair does not secrete enough oils to maintain nice and healthy hair. A good example for great hair is African American hair. Oil glands normally take around one to two weeks to produce natural oils that more or less moisturize hair.

Most kinds of hair need to be shampooed every fortnight, while others need it to be shampooed every single day in order to maintain that look of healthy hair.

If you have dry hair it is important that you invest in a good deep conditioner or treatment which is applied to your hair via the use of a heat cap and a plastic cap for around ten to twenty minutes. This way all the levels of your hair get the treatment they are supposed to.
If you have exceptionally dry hair, then ensure that you have oil treatments done every month or so. This will ensure that your hair will look great.

If you need to take extra care of your scalp then buy a good moisturizing shampoo. When washing your hair with it, keep it on for around three to five minutes. This will kill any kind of unwanted bacteria on your scalp.

Baldness is quite common amongst men. You do not know when it will hit, but you do know that it will happen sooner or later. There are so many things you can do to curtail hair loss, but most of them are products that are overly advertised as well as surgery options. If you are already bald, then you might as well go with the flow. If you are uncomfortable with going bald, then here are four ways to hide those bald spots:

1. Cut your hair really short. If you have long hair, and it seems to be thinning out, or you find you are developing bald patches, then your hair will look awful. Instead cut it short, it will look a lot neater and presentable.

2. Another thing you can try is combing your hair over the bald spots. Most people will probably just laugh at this attempt, but hey, if Donald Trump can do it, so can you!

3. Toupees and wigs. If you plan to use one of these to hide your balding scalp, then it is advisable that you purchase a good one that looks absolutely natural. Otherwise, it just ends up looking awful, and everyone will know that it is a fake and that can be even more embarrassing than walking around with bald spots.

4. Shave your head. This might seem like a bit of a stretch of the imagination, but why not. If you are suffering from baldness, then you might as well just shave your head so you do not have to worry about bald patches or buying a wig or any other such issues.
